Walter's first Halloween was pretty uneventful- it consisted of him fighting naps all day long and being kind of whiny because of it. And somewhere in between all of the no napping fun, we snapped a few pictures of him in his cute little Halloween onesie and in his costume.
His onesie says "This little devil..." and then on the butt says "Will charm your pants off"
We have a roller on our hands!! It came out of nowhere and he is learning more and more everyday how to roll around. I thought I would be really sad to see him grow up like that, but I'm actually really excited that he can do this now, and it's so fun to watch him do it- you can tell he is very proud of himself :) Now I just need to baby proof this place...
First he rolls on his tummy
Then he buries his head in the floor and sticks his bum in air and acts like he is going to scoot
Then he decides that that's too much work and rolls back on his back :)
Today we woke up to the first snow of the year. We also woke up to a freezing cold apartment because our heater decided to start blowing cold air instead of warm air. So Walter and I spent the day at Grandma and Grandpa Adams' house while we waited for our heater to be fixed. We had a lazy day with Grandma. We watched a Halloween movie- Hocus Pocus. Walter took lots of naps. We laughed and played a whole bunch.
And then Michael came home from school early because the power was out at school, so Walter played some more with him.
And Walter got some good cuddle time in with Grandma.
And then Walter got his first piece of candy... but not really. He just chewed on a twix bar with the wrapper still on for a minute- he thought he was pretty special.
And that was our day. We sure are glad we have parents/grandparents that live so close and can save us from freezing apartments!!
Wow! How Walter got to be 5 months old, I have no idea! But, here he is, getting bigger and bigger everyday. He has become the sweetest little boy, so chill and just kind of goes with the flow. He laughs and smiles all day long and loves to yell now too. These last 5 months have been the hardest of my life, but they have been the absolute best as well.
At 5 month old Walter is:
Still in size 2 diapers, but at night we have to double up with a size 2 and then a size 3 on the outside of that
Wearing 3-6 month clothes, a few 6-9 months
Still taking 1/2 hour naps
Sleeping quite a bit better at night. He goes down at about 7:30 and usually doesn't wake up til about 4, then sleeps again til 6:30 or 7- I am loving it!
He is eating baby oatmeal, apple sauce and sweet potatoes- loves them all
He grabs everything! Especially our food, he wants to eat it so bad!
His favorite thing to play with are waterbottles and tags. He usually only plays and chews with the tags on all his toys, not the actual toy- silly boy
He has a favorite blanket that he sleeps with every night and holds it to his face while sucking his thumb, it's adorable!
He has no interest in rolling at all
He tries his hardest to sit up on his own but doesn't have it down quite yet
Baby Walter got to meet his great great Uncle Walter for the first time on Friday. Uncle Walter is who Baby Walter is named after, so I was excited for him to meet him (even though he won't remember it). We went out to eat at Applebee's and had a great time! Then we went and had dinner at Grandma Smith's house tonight. Uncle Walter is such a sweet and cute man :) He lives in New Orleans so we don't see him that much, and he always asks us when we are coming out to see him in New Orleans. I really would love to, we're just too poor right now. We're glad that he comes out here once in a while to visit though :)
Today we decided to take a trip to J&J Nursery to go on their hayride. Walter loved it! We got to pick out a free pumpkin for him in the pumpkin patch as well. Grandma Smith, Aunt Sherri and cousin Brooklyn came along. We had lots of fun!
On the tractor!
He got so excited when the tractor started driving
Enjoying the ride while eating his fingers (I love Brooklyn's face in the background :) )
Walter's little pumpkin
He was so tired that on the tractor ride back up to the parking lot he fell asleep on Grandma's lap :)
Today we made a trip to Black Island Farms to pick out Walter's very first pumpkin. It was a quick trip, but Walter had fun being outside and looking at all the pumpkins! He picked out a baby pumpkin, perfect for him :)
I cannot even begin to tell you how much I love this little boy. I fall more and more in love with him every single day and I am so lucky and so blessed to be his mother. I love love love that I get to be at home with him everyday! I am blessed with a husband who works so hard every day all day so that I can do that. Walter has developed quite the personality and he is the sweetest little boy. He is so mild tempered and loves to laugh and smile and play all the time. He is growing so fast and will be 5 months old in less than a week! I try so hard to soak in every single moment I have with him and remember every little thing about him because he is growing and changing so fast. He is a momma's boy and becomes more so everyday. He makes me so happy and I have more love for him than I ever thought possible. I am so blessed.
This was my first attempt at making homemade bread, and for being my very first time, it turned out pretty good! It has a really tough crust, but that's just the recipe, and I kind of prefer a hard crust. The only thing that was a little bit wrong with it was that the inside was just on the doughy side. But this recipe was seriously the easiest thing I've ever done, I got it from this blog. Perfect recipe for a beginner like me :) And it makes the house smell dang good.
Walter is napping and has been asleep for almost an hour! That never happens! So I don't know what to do with myself right now. The house could use some cleaning up, but that's no fun so I decided I'll do a little update- even though nothing new has really happened in the last week.
I know that everyone says that if you pick your baby up and feed him while you are trying to sleep train him that it'll just confuse them and make things worse, but I am here to tell you that that is not true for all babies. Walter is proof of that. I said in my last post that I was going to start letting him cry it out at night and put himself to sleep, but that I was still feeding him in the middle of the night of he woke up. Well, I don't want to jinx it, but his sleeping habits have become a lot better this past week! He can put himself to sleep fairly easily, sometimes he doesn't even whine, and he is now to the point where he is waking up only once, maybe twice, a night. That is a huge improvement! I will only feed him if he wakes up and it's been about five hours since his last feeding, if he wakes up more often than that, I won't pick him up and he will put himself right back to sleep. He is now sleeping from about 7:30 at night to 6 or 7 in the morning. Yes, waking up once or twice a night is still not the funnest, but I would say that it's a definite improvement from where we were at just a couple weeks ago. I'm okay with him still waking up, I honestly feel like he needs to eat sometimes in the middle of the night, and I honestly don't think it is confusing him. Anyway, that's all I have to say on that subject- I'm happy with how things are going with it now.
Jesse is still super busy with school and work. He is going full time with both, but he will graduate in the spring! He is almost there! It makes for really long days when he goes to work all day and then is in class til 9:30 at night (he does that twice a week), and I always wish he were around more, but I'm glad he is determined to get school done and over with. I really want to go back to school, and I'm hoping I'll be able to take at least one class this coming semester, but we'll see. It'll be an online class so I won't have to leave Walter- I'm not very good at that! I feel pretty pathetic that I don't even have my associates yet, so I really want to start working towards that.
I can tell Walter really wants to sit up on his own and he tries so hard, but he just can't do it quite yet. He has learned how to roll from his back to his belly, but then gets stuck and starts freaking out, it's pretty hilarious. He is becoming super clingy. Most of the time if I put him down and walk out of his eye sight he starts crying, and as soon as he sees me again, he stops. He would much rather be held than set down at all. I love that he is a momma's boy now.
There has been this lady that walks around our apartment complex with a really long stick (I think it looks like a wizards staff), and she has long grey hair and she is always mumbling things to herself. I don't want to be mean, but she really creeps me out! A while back we got a knock on our door and Jesse didn't recognize that it was her, so he answered it, and she was asking all these weird questions like if we were related to all these different people and was talking about how she was looking for her mom and if we had any information about where she was that we needed to come tell her, it was just weird. Just the other day, there was another knock on our door and I was home alone with Walter- it was her again... I was too scared to answer, luckily she went away and didn't come back. Wanna know the really weird part? Heather, who lives in Cedar City, told me that there is a lady that walks around SUU who is just like that! Grey hair, big stick and all! Super weird- they must be related or something...
I think I have rambled enough for now- if anyone has ideas of what Walter should be for Halloween, let me know.
I will leave you with a picture of the most adorable 4 month old you will ever see!
